BudaFest – Hungarian State Opera House
19th Summer Music Festival
The central location of the BudaFest Summer Music Festival is the Hungarian State Opera House, which is one of the most important monuments from the 19th century in the Hungarian capital and to which BudaFest has been closely connected since its establishment. The richly decorated building was erected according to the plans of Miklós Ybl in 1875-1884, and it was undoubtedly the peak of the artist’s career. The neorenaissance building is decorated by the statues and paintings of Bertalan Székely, Mór Thán and Károly Lotz. It is among the most beautiful opera houses in the world. During the era of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, it was called the Hungarian Royal Opera House. In front of the building there are the statues of Ferenc Erkel and Ferenc Liszt, prepared by Alajos Stróbl.

City of cafés
What is the atmosphere of a typical café in Pest like? You can find out for yourself! At the turn of the 20th century, more than 600 cafés operated in Budapest, which belonged to the everyday lives of the inhabitants. Nowadays the number of cafés is significantly lower but those who like good coffee and the unique atmosphere of human relationships created in cafés are recommended to visit a few cafés evoking good old times or some modern ones.
