If there has ever lived a true star sculptor in Hungary, it must have been Amerigo Tot during the 70s and 80s. Open from 9 October 2009 to 3 January 2010, the Amerigo Tot exhibition is about, among others, the development of the artist and thus sheds light on Tot's legends and the afterlife of his works. The exhibition of Attila Csörgő, one of the most famous artists of the young Hungarian artist generation is on display in the museum between 30 October 2009 and 24 January 2010. |

Lahti Symphonic Orchestra Concert – 2 December 2009 The symphonic orchestra of the lakeshore city some 100 km from Helsinki has earned world fame by embracing the life achievement of Sibelius. Organ tours: Cambridge – Stephen Cleobury and the King’s College Choir – 19 December 2009 The ex-second organist of Westminster Abbey performs the works of Baroque and Romantic composers on the unique organ of the Palace of Arts. Beethoven Marathon – 21 February 2010 The Béla Bartók National Concert Hall and Festival Theatre devotes a full day to the music of Beethoven: the audience can listen to various works of the number one composer of the Viennese classicists from early in the morning to late at night.

Hungarian State Opera – 125 Years of the Opera House |

This jubilee of the Opera House is an occasion to call public attention to the Neo-Renaissance building of the Opera House designed by Miklós Ybl, as well as our special musical arts. Everyone can find a favourite among the programs of the 2009/2010 season; altogether 193 opera and 76 ballet performances will be held with 8 premiéres and 5 renewed pieces. The Orchestra of the Budapest Philharmonic Society also stages 12 concerts during the season. The exhibition of opera history entitled 125 Years of the Opera House can be visited until the end of the season in the various reception halls of the Opera House. The exhibition entitled Posters in the Socialist Era displays posters from the 1945–1989 period. The pictures reflect the various trends that characterised the decades in the era, and also inform us about the most often advertised products, store types and slogans. The transitory nature is similar to that of the lily: the two-decade “moment” of the Art Nouveau was short-lived, yet the beauty of its art pieces is still eternal. The exhibition entitled “Aching lily on the cliff” – Furniture designers of the Hungarian Art Nouveau discover Hungarian Art Nouveau furniture design during the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Open between 25 September 2009 and 28 March 2010. Between 18–20 December the museum hosts Christmas Fair, an event where the best industrial artists offer their works of art for sale. |

Founded in 1802, the Hungarian National Museum was the fourth museum in Europe and the first in Hungary. Currently, the number of art pieces is above 1 million with some specialities like the thousand-year old royal robe or Mozart’s clavichord. Princesses from far away – Catalonia and Hungary in the Middle Ages: this exhibition reveals the intertwining history and culture of the two peoples. The exhibit is open until 29 November with an exceptionally rich offering of cultural programs. |

The grandiose exhibition entitled “From Botticelli to Titian: the masterpieces of two centuries of Italian painting” is one of the sensations of the year. Over 130 key pieces of art represent the Italian art of the Renaissance and Mannerism. This is the first gallery in HungaryMuseum of Fine Arts. Open between 28.10.09 and 14.02.10. to offer a comprehensive approach to Italian painting in the 15–16th centuries. The collection is complemented with 35 extremely important paintings from the paintings of thecollection of theMuseum of Fine Arts. You can visit from 28th October 2009 til 14th February 2010. |

The Academy of Music will close for a two-year period but before that a Festival of Farewell to the Building is scheduled between 3–9 November 2009 with chamber music, orchestra concerts, night organ concert, jazz and folk music, guided tours, musical kindergarten and an exhibition on the past and future of the building. | The exhibition 500 Years Since the Birth of Calvin: Calvinist cultural heritage along the Danube presents the cultural and religious characteristics of the various social classes of the Calvinist population along the river Danube. In addition, the exhibit highlights the impact of Calvinism on Hungarian culture, literature, arts and science over the past 5 centuries. Open between 30 October 2009 and the end of January 2010, the exhibition primarily presents Calvinist assets, art collection and art pieces by Calvinist artists and even provides an overview of ecclesiology. | |

Munich in Hungarian. Hungarian Artists in Munich, 1850–1914 The key figures of Hungarian art were all children of Munich including Bertalan Székely, Gyula Benczúr, Pál Szinyei Merse, Mihály Munkácsy, Simon Hollósy, Tivadar Csontváry Kosztka, Károly Ferency and János Vaszary. Munich was also home to those artists who guided the future generations and had a huge influence in the training of artists in the 1930s. 02.10.2009–10.01.2010.
